Why consider henna brows?

Henna brows offer a semi-permanent tinting method to create beautifully shaped and coloured eyebrows. Once tinted, there's no need to pencil your eyebrows each morning. It's also an ideal way to test out a new eyebrow shape before moving onto a more permanent solution such as feather touch tattooing.

What's involved?

Henna dye is used to stain the skin underneath the eyebrow. The effect creates depth and fullness. Henna fills in the space where eyebrows are missing or are very thin. Henna is a natural product and comes from the henna tree or hina plant, but the dye or stain has now been developed into a range of suitable shades and tones for eyebrow matching.

Henna has been used for centuries as a dye for clothing and for makeup. It has been used by the Egyptians and is still popular in Indian cultures.

Before applying the henna, eyebrows are shaped into the desired style using waxing and tweezing methods. The desired tone and shade of henna is then selected according to individual needs. A paste consisting of henna powder and demineralised water is applied to the eyebrow and gradually soaks into the skin. This takes around 10 to 15 minutes.
An ombre effect can be achieved by starting with a lighter stain nearer the nose and allowing the colour to darken over the arch and end of the brow.

Benefits of henna

As henna is a natural dye, it is also vegan friendly and cruelty free. Because it does not contain any peroxide activators, it is also ideal for anyone who has sensitive skin - unlike many other tinting products and procedures that are currently available.

According to some professionals in the cosmetic business, henna tinting also gives a pleasing matte effect and treated eyebrows can appear fluffier than those using other procedures. Another benefit of using henna is its long-lasting effect.

How much maintenance is involved?

The effects are semi-permanent. Results can last between 2 and 4 weeks but individual results will vary. People with more brow hair will have longer lasting results. So will people with drier skin types compared to those with oilier complexions.

The treatment works best on healthy skin, so people who have skin conditions like dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis will need more maintenance.

It should not be carried out after a facial exfoliation. To maintain the effect for longer, it's best not to overly wash the face. There are also some conditioning products available that will help the henna to last longer. This is because skin cells renew themselves; as the skin is shed, so it the henna stain.

Henna is ideal for people who want a no-fuss solution for thinning eyebrows or to experiment with a new look. The effect can be tested out prior to using a permanent method such as tattooing. The method is simple, natural and painless.

Most clients prefer henna brows to traditional tinting as the henna is a natural product and generally produces longer lasting results.
